Seeks nominees for individual parish Business-School Partners to be recognized for their contribution to Catholic education. Works closely with schools in encouraging full participation in the annual GALA, a once-a-year opportunity for business and school people to meet, to get to know each other and better to understand the needs of the other. CBN-MC "Essay" Scholarship Program Chair: John J. Matteo, Esq., Jackson & Campbell, P.C., 202-457-5457 Committee administers Scholarship Essay Competition with support of Catholic Schools, arranges for Catholic High School teachers to participate in judging the approximately 450 essays submitted, and arranges for the winners and their families to attend and be recognized at the Gala. CBN-MC treasurer sends Grant checks to the selected high schools in August before the fall opening of schools. Honorable mention winners receive CBN-MC letter highlighting their highly competitive essays for use in building an individual portfolio of activities necessary to college admission. CBN-MC "Need-Based" Scholarship Program Chair: John Treseler, John C. Grimberg Co., Inc., 301-881-5120 Committee administers Need Based Scholarship Program with support of Catholic Schools. The Need-Based Scholarship was initiated by CBN-MC in 2007 through seed money provided by John C. Grimberg Co., Inc. in Rockville. The Scholarships are awarded to Montgomery County Catholic Elementary School students / families with financial, physical or learning challenges. To protect the dignity of the student and family, principals apply for the scholarship on behalf of the student anonymously. CBN-MC has been blessed with tremendous support for this scholarship program enabling CBN-MC to award a scholarship to each applicant since 2007. This program is rapidly becoming a central focus of the CBN-MC. CBN-MC Youth Coaches Hall of Fame Induction Sports Luncheon Co Chair: Alex Echeandia, Primex Mortgage Corporation, 301-468-5600 Co Chair: Robert P. Scanlon, Esq., Anderson & Quinn, LLC, 301-762-3303 Committee organizes, promotes and administers a dynamic annual sports luncheon to recognize CYO and other youth coaches in Montgomery County for the tremendous service they provide Catholic youth (pre-high school), Catholic schools and Catholic families. The recognition takes the form of induction into the CBN-MC Youth Coaches Hall of Fame. Thirty four coaches have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since the inauguration of this visible and exciting event in 2000. The key to the expanding attendance at each luncheon is the featuring of area sports figures as guests at sponsored tables. It provides especially valuable networking within the Montgomery County youth sports community. This year's luncheon will be held on April 14, 2011 at the Georgetown Prep Hadley Center. CBN-MC Scholarship Program Golf Tournament Chair: William P. This is another opportunity for relationship bonding vital to effective networking with fellow Catholic business people. In 2010 the tournament raised more than $5,000 for scholarships. In addition to the award of "Essay" Scholarships, in 2007 CBN-MC initiated the award of "Need Based" Scholarships through seed money provided by John C. Grimberg Co., Inc. CBN-MC awarded $56,500 in Essay and Need Based scholarships at our 2011 luncheon. Volunteers help arrange seating, design the program, coordinate pictures and facilitate check in for this outstanding event. This committee meets once a month, then several times a month as the event draws closer. Volunteers are needed for every aspect of the event, registration, creative writing, advertising, gathering auction items, program development. This committee has a long history of experienced volunteers who are eager and willing to share ideas and experience.
